Green Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd officially launched its new corporate social
responsibility initiative - Mercedes-Benz Green Legacy Program - on
Monday this week with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in cooperation with the Ministry of
Construction and local provincial authorities, to support the
preservation of World Natural Heritage sites in China.

Over the next few years, Mercedes-Benz will donate a total of 3 million
yuan to this cause, one third of which will go to Sichuan Giant Panda
Sanctuaries in the first year. Mercedes-Benz China will become one of
UNESCO's key partners in such preservation work and also the first
automaker to pledge long-term support for UNESCO's World Natural Heritage
sites in China.

Grassroots support

Sponsored by gum and candy maker Wrigley China, Chinese Communist Youth
League and Chinese Youth Volunteers Association will provide financial
support for 220 outstanding grassroots volunteer organizations nationwide.

Those organizations are engaged in pollution prevention, rural education,
residential community services, help to disadvantaged people and cultural
heritage protection.

Hope Schools

Corporate Social Responsibility and Hope School Development Symposium,
sponsored by LG Electronics, was held recently in Beijing.

Topics included how to improve Hope School teachers' training, what is
most needed for rural children's psychological education, and what
companies can do to support sustainable development of established Hope
Schools. So far, LG Electronics have 14 Hope Schools around China.

State Grid donation

Sponsored by the State Gird Corp of China, China Disabled Persons'
Federation launched a program recently to improve lives of walking
disabled people. The State Grid donated 20 million yuan to 17 provinces
in the central and western part of the nation. The fund will help 7,000
walking disabled people receive artificial legs and build new or upgraded
facilities for walking disabled in the country's 146 major airports.

Painting competition

Hong Kong-headquartered real estate firm New World China Land recently
launched a children's painting competition in 20 cities, together with
the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The top 20 paintings will be auctioned, and over 1 million yuan is
expected to be raised for the Child Friendly School, a UNICEF educational
program in the inland area, says Wingo Chan, executive deputy general
manager of New World China Land (Beijing).
